As the school year winds down at Phillippi Shores Elementary School students needed to blow off some steam. Physical Education coach Amy Kanter had just the solution with a field day on Thursday for students of all grade levels. Students rotated between activities that included two waterslides, jump ropes, basketball hoops, capture the flag, and watermelon eating.
Throughout the year teachers set classroom goals and the event was designed to reward students for meeting those goals. The activities were funded through the Parent Teacher Association that included funding for $300 worth of watermelons for the day.
“They’ve earned it as an end of the year celebration. It’s just for good fun,” Kanter said.
