Superintendent Rick Mills might be leaving the district earlier than even he planned.
Less than a month after Mills announced plans to retire, effective July 31, the Manatee County School District will discuss paying out the duration of the official's contract and pushing up his last day.
Mills' original contract states a June 30, 2017 end date.
District officials will discuss an earlier separation with Mills at its workshop at 3 p.m. today, in the School Support Center, 215 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton, and at their School Board meeting at 5:45 p.m.
Officials will also vet options for how to proceed following Mills leave from the district, such as hiring an interim superintendent or filling the position immediately.
Other topics on the docket for tonight's meeting include a 15-minute earlier starting time for high school students, from 7:45 a.m. to 7:30 a.m.
