More than 250 guests lingered along the banks of the Braden River, behind Linger Lodge Restaurant, as it hosted its annual Bluegrass Festival and Gumbo Cook-off Saturday. Guests sampled gumbo while listening to music by Hwy 41 South, Sonya Stratton and Straight South and other bluegrass groups.
Ken Cowles and his sons, Jarrett and Chad, took first place in the gumbo cook-off.
Ernestor Enchautegui Jr. serves Linger Lodge’s famous gumbo.
Joe and Paula Kanzler prepared a seafood gumbo with shrimp, crab, andouille sausage, okra and other flavorings.
Clara and Stephen Spicer make a hunter gumbo with smoked rabbit, smoked quail, buffalo, tasso-cured ham and other ingredients.
