Two decades after its inception, members of the Sarasota-based chapter of Sigma Pi Phi, Gamma XI Boule, are still passionate about their cause.
The local organization's members met April 10 at the Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club for the group's 20th anniversary celebration, which commemorated the organization and its focus on improving the lives of African-American youth in its communities.
Members of the organization help youth develop positive attitudes, enhanced social skills and cultural pride.
Attendees enjoyed dinner, jazz music and discussions by guest speakers, such as Harvard graduate James Cole.
Proceeds from the event benefited chapter's Journey to Success program, and its foundation's scholarship program.
