On Election Day this March, neither of the contested City Commission races were decided — and so, the four remaining candidates resumed their fundraising and spending efforts the next day, intensifying the battle for the District 2 and 3 seats.
All four candidates have filed their March finance reports, which were due to the city today. In both races, the candidate who earned the most votes on March 10 has raised the most money, but the trailing candidate is not lagging far behind.
In District 2, challenger and attorney Liz Alpert earned the most votes of any candidate citywide in March. She followed up that success by raising the most funds of any candidate, reporting $6,385 in monetary contributions between Election Day and March 31.
That was a change of pace, as incumbent Eileen Walsh Normile led the pack in financial contributions before the March 10 election. For her campaign, Normile raised a total of $5,610 last month.
In District 3, incumbent and Election Day leader Stan Zimmerman raised $4,050 after March 10 — nearly two-thirds of the total monetary contributions he reported in the three-month general election campaign. Challenger Shelli Freeland Eddie reported $3,595 in financial contributions.
All four candidates have reportedly spent less than $2,000 since Election Day, leaving them with sizable pots to spend on their campaigns in the month remaining before the May 12 runoff election.
