North end sand project makes progress

At high tide, beachgoers that walked onto Beer Can Island from the North Shore Road beach access would get stuck on the island until the tide receded.

That problem has been eliminated, for now, with the placement of a large chunk of sand placed just north of North Shore Road.

An emergency sand project being performed by the West Coast Inland is moving smoothly just two weeks after sand began being pumped on the island.

Sand is now being placed south of North Shore Road behind the Longbeach Periwinkle condominium building, which has no seawall in front of it and the erosion there was a concern among residents and town officials.
