The holidays are in full swing: decorations are going up and lights are shining bright, so don’t be the last one to join in on the decorating fun. The best way to start out the Christmas season is with the tree. Between the smell, the lights and the ornaments, you just can't beat it.

First you have to start with the perfect tree. I prefer going to a tree lot that donates to charity, as you're getting a nice tree while also spreading the spirit of giving. Every tree is different and everyone has their own opinions on what style of tree to get, whether it's short and hearty or tall and lean. In my personal opinion, the taller the better!

Once you get the tree home and settled, it's time to decorate! Lights, lights, lights — never skimp on lights. They transform the tree into the bright and shining beauty that it should be. I personally enjoy decorating with ornaments that are sentimental or handmade.

Now it’s time to spread the cheer. A friend of mine cut off some bottom limbs of her Christmas Tree and put them in miscellaneous vases around her home and spread the wonderful balsam smell. It's also convenient decorating material that's fresh and beautiful. I loved the idea so much I did it myself and added a cute bow.

Happy holidays from Sarasota!
