North Manatee residents: shopping at Walmart and other retail location sin Palmetto may become easier starting next week.

Starting Monday, Dec. 8, Manatee County Area Transit (MCAT) will offer a new north Manatee route called the North County ConneXion. The service will provide transportation to Publix and Walmart in Palmetto, Rubonia, Holy Cross Manor and Palmetto Station.

The route will run from 8:55 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

There will be no bus fare throughout December and starting Jan. 2, regular fare will cost $1.50.

Manatee County commissioners approved the route in the spring.

"The North County ConneXion fulfills an important service need by providing travel opportunities that previously didn't exist," MCAT Manager Bill Steele stated in a press release. "This initiative demonstrated the commitment of Manatee County commissioners to develop transit solutions that address travel needs in the community."
