More students are attending Manatee County schools this school year in comparison to the 2013-2014 school year, according to the school district's annual five-day student count.

The number of students attending county schools is up 2%, or 1,007, in the 2014-2015 school year, a press release stated. Collectively, 46,807 students attend area schools.

The district will obtain official counts in October and February to pinpoint an exact student count for state funding purposes.

To schools Superintendent Rick Mills, the increased number of students in county classrooms is another step in the district's push in a positive direction.

"It's (increased number of students) a positive sign for our district and community that our student population continues to show steady and healthy growth," Mills said in a press release.
