The Manatee County School District will soon decide to allocate $7,667 toward the education and training of eligible farm workers and their families.

Through the Farmworker Education and Services Program at Manatee Technical Institute, the district has helped provide career training for future farm employees through a grant specific to the program.

The Florida Department of Education, Division of Career and Adult Education, Farmworker Jobs and Education Program awarded the district $286,868 for the 2013-2014 school year. The program's high level of performance earned the district an additional $2,869 and a grant extension through June 30, 2015.

Now, the district is also eligible for more than $7,600 in additional funding for the grant.

The School Board will vote on accepting the grant amount and extending the aid through the 2014-2015 school year, along with other agenda items at its meeting from 5:45 to 8 p.m., Aug. 12, at 215 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton.

The meeting is preceeded by an open-to-the-public School Board workshop from 3 to 5 p.m.
