The Manatee County Board of County Commissioners today will address the issue of compensation for employees at the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

A workshop on the issue is being held at 1:30 p.m. today, at the Manatee County Board of County Commissioners meeting chambers, 1112 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton.

Sheriff Brad Steube has been lobbying commissioners to address compensation issues for several years.
The board, in September, agreed to find $1.7 million in the budget and combine it with $1.5 million from savings in healthcare costs to fund the change, to help address the issue in the new fiscal year. However, a longterm solution is yet to be reached.

Stuebe says he is losing experienced deputies to higher-paying law enforcement jobs in surrounding counties and many longer-term deputies are making the same salaries as starting employees.
