Evan Lovejoy’s Paintings Are Not To Be Missed: Closing Reception at Clothesline Gallery this Weekend

This is the last week to see the solo exhibition at the newly expanded Clothesline gallery/boutique featuring the work of painter Evan Lovejoy as the show closes on May 12^th.  A closing reception is on May 11th, 5-9pm at 529 S. Pineapple Avenue, Sarasota as part of the 2^nd Friday Burns Court Walk.

Evan Lovejoy’s paintings depict the non-human world in an intriguing, unusual and technically mature way.  He hijacks form and animal symbology in his depiction of animals resulting in a freeing up of the visual theme and a challenge to the viewer. “Hypnogoia is a mental space in which abstract ideas can take visual form freely,” explains Lovejoy.  “It is the cerebral playground where all of my paintings begin.” His latest series of paintings debuting in the Clothesline show will intrigue and coax unexpected responses. “A beautiful juxtaposition between choice in color and subject / story.” – Robin Punsalan

A graduate of Booker High School VPA and USF, Lovejoy was recently awarded the 2012 James Rosenquist Art Prize.  He has worked with professional artists including painter Janaina Tschape, installation artist Cesar Cornejo, painter Gale Fulton Ross, and botanical artist Olivia Marie Braida-Chiusano.  Lovejoy has studied under master printers Tim Baker and Tom Pruitt at Graphicstudio in intaglio, photogravure, lithograghy, cyanotype, and relief printing techniques.  Working primarily in oils, Lovejoy has included two of his intaglio prints in the show.
