East County public school students this week are remembering the terrorist attacks on New York City and the nation’s capitol.

Several schools are holding special events in honor of the 10th anniversary of 9/11.

Among them, Nolan Middle School is hosting a “Hero/Service Personnel Luncheon” Friday for local fire fighters, law enforcement officers and emergency medical technicians.

Braden River High School will hold a public memorial service at 9 a.m. Sept. 9 that includes eye-witness accounts from people who experienced the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

Additionally, Freedom Elementary School students will be spelling out “Never Forget” in American flags in front of the school.

Students and staff at McNeal Elementary School will gather around the flag pole at 8:40 a.m. Friday. The school's Safety Patrol will lead the Pledge of Allegiance, which will be followed by the reading of a poem, a moment of silence and the singing of "God Bless America."
