Buchanan's seat to be challenged

Congressman Vern Buchanan, R-Longboat Key, will be challenged for his 13th Congressional seat.

Former Democratic state representative Keith Fitzgerald, a New College of Florida political science professor, announced Thursday that he will challenge Buchanan in the November 2012 election.

Buchanan is a three-term congressional incumbent that’s decided against running for the U.S. Senate for a chance to serve the constituents of the 13th District for a fourth consecutive term.
