The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office presented donations to local charities today, including check for $6,700 today to All Faiths Food Bank.

The donation to the food bank was the result of seized or recovered cash that went unclaimed.

According to a press release, a state statue enables the Sheriff’s Office to donate such funds to a qualifying charity.

In addition to the donation to All Faiths Food Bank, employees of the Sheriff’s Office have made personal donations throughout the year to a fund for colleagues in need. Three families benefited from that collection today, and the rest of the funds went to The Salvation Army, Safe Place and Rape Crisis Center, and American Cancer Society.

Employees also held a food drive for the past month, donating more than 500 non-perishable food to The Salvation Army
