Osprey’s Blackburn Point Park received a boost to help fund its construction.

The Southwest Florida Water Management District will provide up to $200,000 in matching funds to pay for new amenities in the expanded park.

In January 2006, the county purchased 11 acres along Blackburn Point Road for $16 million to add to the park’s existing five acres.

The park should improve water access for county residents by building a new boat ramp at the park as well as add other recreational opportunities and open space.

Total construction costs are expected to be $3.1 million, and build-out is scheduled to be complete by June 2012.
