TWISS = This Week Is Soooo Sweet!

Strawberry season is here. Anyone who dares buy some in a plastic container is off their rocker! Yoder’s Produce Market on Bahia Vista has the best, sweetest Florida strawberries right here, right now. Check out Detweiler’s Farm Market off Cattlemen as well. "Juicy" is an understatement, as noted by my stained blouse when nibbling on the way home from my three-quart pickup.

It is time to make strawberry shortcake with homemade whipped cream. Or fresh strawberry ice cream! (See and click on "Recipes" under the Community tab.)

A "cheat" version of my favorite strawberry shortcake is to buy shortcake biscuits already made in the bakery section at Publix. Slice strawberries in half and top with ¼ cup of sugar, then let it sit in the refrigerator for one hour to extract some juice. Make a fresh batch of homemade whipped cream and don’t forget to use a touch of real vanilla extract. I heat the biscuits for 12 seconds in the microwave before piling on the sweet stuff.

There you have it---fresh strawberry shortcake and fresh Florida strawberries. This week is juicy, red and sweet.
