Going for Gold
Sarasota Christian School students competed in the school’s Blazer Olympics March 28. Kindergarten through fifth-grade students were split into blue and gold teams and played games such as tug-of-war and track and field sports. After a day of cheering, the gold team won by one point.

High Notes
The Sarasota Music Club has awarded eight music students a combined $19,000 in 2014 music scholarship support. The money will go toward the students’ future music studies at college. Soprano Maria Wirries, viola payer Philip Hall and violinist Natash Snyder received $3,000 each. Flautist Sara Morich received a $2,500 scholarship. Baritone saxophonist Ryan Brown, cellist Logan Knutson and percussionist Nick McConnaughey received $2,000 each. Pianist Cindy Grimes received a $1,500 scholarship. The winners will perform at the Sarasota Music Club’s Scholarship Awards Luncheon May 3.

Roaring to Life
On April 8, Pine View School came roaring to life during its Roaring ’20s simulation. Antique cars were parked on campus as suffragettes marched by yelling, “Mr. President, we want to vote!” In addition, there was a speakeasy that students could visit, that is, if they didn’t run into one of Al Capone’s henchmen.

Flappers also took center stage as they conducted their Charleston flash mob in the gymnasium. Overall, the students enjoyed reliving history.
