+ Overtime pay burdens SCAT budget
At the May 1 budget workshop held by the Sarasota County Commission, Planning and Development Services Director Robert Lewis called attention to what he says is a burden on the Sarasota County Area Transit Authority budget: overtime pay.

The presentation was aimed at preparing commissioners for the budget SCAT will seek later this year. Lewis said the organization could ask for a budget increase of $27,105, which would be used in part to hire 42 additional employees.

Data presented showed that hiring has remained relatively static over the past five years but the number of routes offered has grown. The amount of overtime pay allotted has increased because of this asymmetry, he said.
