PHOTO GALLERY: Taste of the Keys Fashion Show

The Garden Club of Longboat Key is pro at making green things grow, and their fundraising event in conjunction with Longboat Key Center for the Arts, a Division of Ringling College of Art and design on Jan. 26 was no different. They surely grew more 'green' at this year's Taste of the Keys than last year according to event coordinator Susan Landau.

Fans of art and whimsy gathered at the Marietta Museum of Art and Whimsy Friday, Oct. 26 to celebrate the museum's grand reopening as it heads into its third season. Guests got in the spirit by dressing in whimsical attire, including wigs and accessories, and they enjoyed drinks and appetizers as well as live music, performed by Jimi Gee.

PHOTO GALLERY: Freedom Elementary Character Dance

Freedom Elementary students dressed as their favorite characters at the Character Dance on Oct. 26. Kids dressed as superheroes, pirates, pumpkins, ghouls and more danced to pop songs and ate snow cones. The PTO sponsored event helps fund school activates and materials. Pre ordered tickets cost $3 a person, while tickets at the door sold for $4.

Sarasota in Defense of Animals hosted its annual fundraiser Friday, Oct. 26 at the White Sands Cabana on Siesta Key. The fundraiser, titled 'Leis for Strays,' featured a Hawaiian theme, including hula dancers and a Hawaiian drinks. Guests enjoyed hors d'oeuvers and dinner as well as a live and silent auction to benefit the organization.

Longboat Key Club and Resort threw its usual Summer time beach barbecue Sunday, May 26, but since it was Memorial Day weekend, a lot more people donned red, white and blue. There was live music and Key Club served summer staples to the families in attendance: burgers, hot dogs, watermelon - and even red, white and blue chocolate covered strawberries.
