East County children enjoyed a plethora of Easter activities April 7 throughout the community. Harvest United Methodist Church, University Park Country Club and Lakewood Ranch Main Street all hosted Easter egg hunts Saturday, and pint-sized hunters responded in droves to fill their baskets in celebration.

Regional and local artists joined with Friends of Myakka River State Park for a presentation of paintings, prints, drawings, photographs and sculptures to represent the 57 miles of wetlands, prairies and woodlands. The gallery of work was revealed at the opening on Thursday, April 12 at the Longboat Key Center for the Arts, a Division of Ringling College of Art and Design. The artwork features reptiles, fish, mammals, birds, landscapes and other flora and fauna of the Myakka River using different mediums and color schemes.
