Despite a light rain, bluegrass musicians and fans gathered under the pavilion Thursday, Jan. 3 at Bee Ridge Park to stir up some home-cooked roots music as part of a weekly collaborative performance. According to guitarist Gary Miller, during season, when more musicians show up, the weekly event becomes more of an open jam session. 'I think we counted 15 guitars tonight,' said Miller, during a break. 'We just all take turns singing.' Musicians took turns playing bluegrass standards as the audience watched on from beneath the pavilion.

Cardinal Mooney High School hosted its 11th annual walkathon to raise money for All Children's Hospital Saturday Feb. 4. Students and families joined staff to walk for a cause. Eleven years ago, the high school lost several students to leukemia and decided to start this fundraising event to raise funds for research. The walkathon, which includes a dance-off, concession stands and field-day activities, was sponsored by Harmor Mobility, Sarasota Lanes, Petland and Tropicana.

Surprised beach bums gathered to watch Moving Ethos Dance Company's inspiring performance as the sun set. Although the performance persisted no more than ten minutes, the impact seemed to have lasting impression: 'Do you have any flyers? I want to join!' seemed to be more than a few audience members' reactions.
