St. Boniface foyer hosted their annual spring fling Friday, April 19 at the Siesta Key beach pavilion to welcome friends and have a good time. The foyer is a dinner party group and hosts dinners at various parishioner's homes to meet new friends and interact with member. Approximately 100 people attended the annual spring fling. Reverend John Hall said grace and prayed for the Boston marathon bombing victims and Boston area residents as well as those in Wako, TX who suffered from the explosion at the fertilizer plant. Parishioners enjoyed chicken, pulled pork and side dishes.

The Bill Brian Foundation held its first fundraiser, 'A Heroes Luncheon' Monday, Aug. 25, at the Sarasota Yacht Club. The Brian Bill Foundation, named after Chief Petty Officer (SEAL) Brian Robert Bill, is a nonprofit dedicated to helping Navy SEAL families and survivors with a retreat and resource house. Guest speaker Jessica Buchanan, author of 'Impossible Odds,' shared the story of her kidnapping in Somalia and the rescue by SEAL Team Six. 'It's a dream I've had for three years,' says Scott Bill, president of Brian Bills Foundation. 'Today's a new beginning.'

The center is the newest addition to the Glasser/Schoenbaum Human Services Center located on 17th Street. After the ceremony, guests were invited to explore the new facility and meet members of staff. "It's an exciting day for our children and for the community," says Jay Berman, executive director of the Glasser/Schoenbaum Human Services Center.

Sarasota is in for a great cultural season as indicated by the hundreds in attendance at Artsy August Tuesday, Aug. 27, at Hotel Indigo. Patrons of the arts along with arts advocates, arts affiliates, visitors and new Sarasotans filled the first floor for an event West Coast Woman organized to celebrate the arts. The publication, along with help from Hotel Indigo, brought more than 20 area arts organizations to attend the event with informational tables. Groups such as Sarasota Ballet, Sarasota Opera, Sarasota Orchestra and Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe presented its seasons to attendees who were able learn a little about each. Between tables, they gathered to socialize and have light bites.
