Sarasota Bay Watch, a nonprofit group dedicated to protecting and restoring Sarasota Bay's ecosystem, stayed true to their mission with a Sister Keys Island cleanup. Over 100 participants met at Mar Vista Saturday morning, May 14, rolled up their sleeves and got down to business. They were wet, sandy and sweaty but all were smiling because they collected a whole dumpster's worth of trash bags.

The Sea Gals have never hosted over 100 people for their holiday luncheon, but this year, they had 150. The Sea Gals and the Style show combined forces for a Florentine fantasy luncheon and informal fashion show featuring evening dresses from L boutique. Bird Key Yacht Club member Annette Lloyd designed jewelry for the models that accompanied the dresses. Interior designer Karen Jones gave a lecture on Florence design during dessert.

More than 100 Braden River High students tuned up their instruments and headed out into the summer sun for the Pirates annual band camp Aug. 4. During the camp, which began Aug. 1 and runs through Aug. 12, students practiced marching and learned music for this year's show 'Air,' which depicts man's imagination of flight.

The 38th Annual Plant and Flower Show took place at Selby Garden Saturday and Sunday Feb, 23 and 24 to show off beautiful plants and give the community an opportunity to purchase some. About 3,000 people attended the show with about 40 vendors and 100 volunteers. 'Its an opportunity for members and guests to buy plants and have them all in one spot,' said volunteer coordinator Phyllis Kirtley.
