The scents of fruit-topped waffles, croissants and coffee were in the air at the Siesta Key Chamber of Commerce's networking breakfast Wednesday, Aug. 31, at The Broken Egg restaurant, on Clark Road. Kevin Cooper, executive director of the chamber, announced upcoming events and invited new members of the group to introduce themselves and get acquainted with the veterans.Â

PHOTO GALLERY: Penguin Island Opens

The six black-footed penguins at Mote Aquarium have been getting a lot of attention lately. The VIPs had their on VIP event for the ribbon-cutting on Tuesday, Nov. 1 when public leaders, Mote trustees and Penguin Island Sponsors came to enjoy a reception and ribbon cutting. The Penguin Island exhibit, featuring the South African mammals, which are endangered in the wild, is now open.

PHOTO GALLERY: Gullett Elementary Winter Performance

Fifth-graders at Gullett Elementary School welcomed the holiday season with their winter performance of Toy Storage Dec. 13. Students acted, sang and danced throughout the production, which told the story of a bunch of toys getting cleaned up and coming out of storage just in time for Christmas. Those in attendance also enjoyed a performance by the Gullett dance team prior to the start of the show.

More than 230 ladies flocked to the Palm Aire Country Club Nov. 12 for the Palm Aire Women's Club's "Bells are Ringing for Bealls" event. Guests enjoyed lunch and raffles before getting a glimpse of the latest fashions during the fashion show.

The Lido Key Residents took over the Lido Beach Resort Bar on Thursday, Feb. 16 for a sunset happy hour. The social time was spent laughing with friends, getting to know other members and snacking on mozzarella sticks. And the view wasn't too shabby either! They had a great view of their neighborhood from up on the eighth floor.

The public attended an artist's reception on Friday Oct. 26 at the New Deal Gallery inside the Federal Building. Local artists Dr. Mary-Louise Biasotti Hooper, Jill Hastings - Ellis and Linda Larisch displayed their work for the public to see. The Federal Building gets a new exhibit of paintings from local artists every three months.
