Selby Public Library hosted Fantastic Feats and Frosty Treats program Wednesday, June 19 at Selby Public Library as part of the summer reading program. Kids munched chocolate swirl and strawberry vanilla swirl ice cream and Scott Humston performed an interactive magic show for children. The magic show was made possible by a grant from the Steinwacks family and 173 people attended.

Community members took children out for a morning of fishing followed by an award ceremony with food from Chick-fil-A and Sam's Club.

Runners from around the country hit the pavement early Sunday morning for the ninth annual Sarasota Half Marathon. More than 4,500 runners ran over Ringling Bridge and up North Tamiami Trail while onlookers lined the streets cheering. Defending champion, Evan DeHart, came in first place while Sara Petrick defended her title as fastest woman for the second year in a row.

Families from Selby's Little Sprouts program were invited to explore the recently finished rainforest before its grand opening. The garden provides an opportunity for families to connect with nature in a fun, safe environment. The garden will be open to the public Saturday, Nov. 9.

The Downtown Sarasota Kiwanis Club hosted its inaugural Daddy-Daughter Date Night Saturday, Jan. 25. Dads and their daughters from the Kiwanis Club, the Boys and Girls Club and the community dressed to impress for the dinner held at Florida Studio Theatre. 'The Kiwanis Club is really about the children,' said President John Moore, 'and this is a great way to celebrate our kids.'
