Attendees to the beach barbeque at Longboat Key Club and Resort on Saturday, Jan. 28 warmed up near a fire pit during the chilly sunset. They dined on hamburgers and hotdogs while enjoying live entertainment from Francesco Tarantino. The young ones - and the young at heart - made s'mores.

There were devils everywhere, and it seemed to be hell on earth at Sarasota Yacht Club's Halloween dinner and dance on Saturday, Oct. 29. There were also visits from the King and Queen, Marc Antony, Cleopatra and the Wicked Witch of the West. There was a festive fall-themed menu and entertainment by the Big Z Band.

U.S. Marine Corps celebrates 235th year

Eight years ago, Walter Bladstrom, Elliott Metcalfe and Tom Smith organized a small luncheon at the Marina Jacks restaurant, with only 14 people in attendance. The celebration has since grown to more than 100 people, who range from age 26 to 96.
