Two promotions at LBK Fire Rescue

The Longboat Key Fire Rescue celebrated the promotion of two of their officers on Monday, Oct. 18. Tim Haas was promoted from firefighter to lieutenant and Sandi Drake was promoted from lieutenant to deputy chief. Drake is the first woman to become deputy chief or hold such a high ranking in the history of Longboat Key Fire Rescue.

Families flock to fall fun on the farm

Thousands of residents from throughout the region flooded the East County for a weekend of fall fun at the Hunsader Farms Pumpkin Festival Oct. 23-24. The festival featured everything from live music and entertainment to games and, of course, the famous pumpkin patch. The festival will be open for one more weekend, Oct. 30-31.

Lee County Sgt. David Drum left from the sheriff's office headquarters in Fort Myers early Wednesday for the 10-day, 390-mile trek from Fort Meyers to Tallahassee. Sgt. Drum was seen walking along 41 in Sarasota today with two other men around 12:30 p.m.

About 90 children from the 13th Avenue Dream Center in Bradenton visited their reading buddies Tuesday, Dec. 11, at Christ Church of Longboat Key. On May 17, volunteers spent their morning removing trash and debris from the mangrove islands as part of Sarasota Bay Watch's 6th annual Sister Keys Cleanup. Travelling by boat and kayak, a group of 75 residents took to the Keys to collect and dispose of items ranging from couches to beer cans.
