PHOTO GALLERY: Shrimp and Lobster Festival

The Sarasota Farmer's Market hosted the second annual Shrimp and Lobster Festival Saturday, June 30. Last year's event drew record crowds to the market, and this year, seafood fans flocked to the market in droves to enjoy live music, children's events and of course, fresh shrimp and lobster. Food vendors even offered shrimp and lobster crepes.

PHOTO GALLERY: Seagrass preservation

Volunteers came out to learn about seagrass and how to monitor and collect data about seagrass Saturday, July 30 at the Turtle Beach Community Center. Led by environmental speicalist Amanda Dominguez, volunteers were taught about how to properly identify certain types of seagrass, as well as how much seagrass is covering the area as well as what the epiphytic algae coverage is like on the seagrass.

Children at Primrose School of Lakewood Ranch brought some of the world's cultures to the East County during the annual Celebrating Cultures event Sept. 30. Each class studied a different culture, created authentic costumes and sang "It's a Small World" - much to the delight of parents and family members.

YPG serves up romance at 'Lovers' Lunch'

The Young Professionals group teamed up with the Pines of Sarasota for a 'Lovers' Lunch' on Saturday, Feb. 12, in Cutter Hall at the Pines. YPG volunteers served a steak and champagne meal to more than 30 Pines residents who also took in a performance by the Riverview High School Chamber Choir.
