Local skaters revel in Olympic debut

Local pairs figure skaters Amanda Evora and Mark Ladwig concluded their Olympic debut Feb. 15 with personal best scores for free skate and overall score, finishing 10th in the pairs figure skating competition at the Pacific Coliseum. Teammates Caydee Denney and Jeremy Barrett finished 13th.

Southeast High freshman Zoë Hawkins-Smyk crossed the finish line in 6:09.10 to win the 1,600 meters and help lead the Lady Seminoles to a second-place finish at the Class 2A-District 10 meet April 12. In the last two months, we featured Adrian Shawn Littlejohn, the 1-year-old son of Lakewood Ranch coach Anthony Littlejohn who battled bravely a rare cancer, twice on our cover. Sadly, he died at 9:15 a.m., May 1, resting comfortably in his mother's arms.
