When Lakewood Ranch High School theater students took the spotlight Dec. 9 and Dec. 10, they did so with a lesson in pop culture to enhance their performances.
Theater students helped develop the show, called “Pop through the (St)Ages,” an exploration of 100 years of pop culture. Students explored what musicals were indicative of pop culture at that time, and used that as a basis on which to develop a show with scenes from the 1920s to present.
“It was fun,” theater teacher Roxanne Caravan said. “The kids had a lot of input. We did it as a big curriculum project.”
Musicals scenes that made the list were from “On the Town,” “Grease,” and “Hair,” among others.
