Registered sex offender arrested on 10 new charges

Acting on several cybertips, Sarasota County Sheriff’s Department agents earlier this week arrested a 37-year-old registered sexual offender on 10 counts of child pornography, the law enforcement agency said on Friday.

Kyle Ryan Ex, with a residence in the 4000 block of Hidden River Lane in rural eastern Sarasota County, was taken into custody on an arrest warrant. A search of his home and his arrest were without incident.

Ex was convicted in 2024 on 15 counts of possession of child pornography. He was listed as a sexual offender and released in November from Columbia Correctional Institute near Lake City on 15 years of probation in connection with the previous Manatee County convictions.

According to the arrest warrant, law enforcement agents received multiple tips through the National Center for Missing or Exploited Children about activity on two social media platforms: Kix and Threads.

Tracking an IP address through its internet provider, law enforcement agents developed probable cause to charge Ex with 10 counts of promoting a sexual performance by a child, court documents show.
