A 100-year-old Craftsman home in the city’s West of Trail area, restored and renovated to 21st century standards in the last year, was listed for sale last month with surprising back-yard features for $4.19 million.
The home at 1611 Hyde Park St. includes a wired-for-electricity treehouse, an adjacent chicken coop and a one-bedroom cottage with a deck above the detached garage. And yes, raising chickens in a back yard is legal in the city, though there are rules on how many, how they are housed and other restrictions. Roosters, however, are not permitted.
The property is represented by Lori Carey and Leslie DuFresne with the downtown office of Premier Sotheby’s International Realty.
“West of Trail continues to attract buyers who value Sarasota’s architectural history but want the comfort of a fully updated home,’’ Carey said in a statement. “Properties that combine historic character, a double lot and additional living spaces like a guest cottage are increasingly difficult to find.”
The McClellan Park home is just at the corner of S. Orange Avenue, also features in the back yard a heated saltwater pool and spa with rock fountain. Balconies, porches and an outdoor kitchen also figure prominently into the property’s lifestyle.
The main residence includes three bedrooms and two-and-a-half baths, anchored by a primary suite on the main level with direct access to the private courtyard pool and spa. Large-format porcelain block flooring runs throughout the home, complemented by updated lighting and curated design details introduced during the renovation.
Living space totals about 3,600 square feet.
