City plans community meetings about draft traffic-calming plan

The city of Sarasota has scheduled three community meetings to showcase the draft neighborhood traffic calming maps. 

These meetings are being held to inform residents, neighborhood leaders and stakeholders about the plans and to receive location-specific feedback prior to finalizing the maps. 

The city has been divided into three areas: A, B and C. 

Scheduled meetings are Wednesday, March 18 for Area B, Tuesday, March 24 for Area A and Thursday, March 26 for Area C. All three meetings are from 5 to 6:30 p.m. and will be held at locations within those areas.

Area B covers mostly coastal areas including the barrier islands from the north to south ends of the city. Area A includes inland areas largely east of North Tamiami Trail and north of Fruitville Road. Area C largely includes inland and bayfront communities south of Fruitville Road and east of Beneva Road to the northern city limit.

Area B neighborhoods include:

  • Bay Island Siesta
  • Bird Key
  • Downtown Sarasota Condo Association
  • Golden Gate Point
  • Harbor Acres
  • Indian Beach-Sapphire Shores
  • Lido Key
  • Lido Shores
  • Plymouth Harbor
  • St. Armands
  • Tahiti Park
  • South Poinsettia Park

The Area B meeting will be held at the Senior Friendship Centers, 1888 Brother Geenen Way.

Area A neighborhoods include:

  • Amaryllis Park
  • Bayou Oaks
  • Broadway Promenade
  • Central Cocoanut
  • Gillespie Park
  • Laurel Park
  • Park East
  • Rosemary District Association
  • Towles Court

The Area A meeting will be held at Robert L. Taylor Community Complex, 1845 John Rivers St.

Area C neighborhoods include:

  • Alta Vista
  • Arlington Park
  • Avondale
  • Bay Point Park
  • Cherokee Park
  • Glen Oaks Estates
  • Glen Oaks Ridge
  • Hudson Bayou
  • McClellan Park
  • San Remo Estates
  • Shoreland Woods

The Area C meeting will be held at Arlington Park Basketball Court, 2650 Waldemere St. 

The Traffic Calming Plan is a city-wide initiative to unify the traffic calming program and evaluate areas of community concern for potential traffic calming solutions. More information is available at SarasotaFL.gov/TrafficCalmingPlan.

Comments may be submitted at any time, but they must be received or postmarked by April 17, 2026, to be included in the formal meeting record.
