Longboat Key Mayor Ken Schneier tried to bow out without recognition, but when word got around that he would not be in attendance for the Town Commission’s Statutory Meeting later this month, commissioners and staff said not so fast, Mr. Mayor. They made a point to recognize him for his years of service, complete with a cupcake reception in the break room after the meeting.

After commissioners shared their appreciation and respect for the job Schneier had done since 2020, Schneier spoke about his time as mayor, commissioner and on volunteer boards, thanking the community and staff for allowing him to serve for 14 years in a capacity that represented his qualities and experience best. And at 4:02 p.m., Schneier banged the gavel for the final time.
