Most people don't think much about their feet until something starts to hurt. Yet our feet support us through every step of the day, and even minor issues can have a major impact on mobility, independence and overall health. What may seem like a small irritation today can quickly become a larger problem if left untreated.
That's why paying attention to foot health is so important. Dr. Joseph Barak of Barak Podiatry treats a wide range of conditions, from diabetic, athletic and traumatic foot injuries to ulcerations, bunions, gout and routine foot care. According to Dr. Barak, even seemingly minor symptoms deserve attention.

"Even the most minute pain or tiniest hole could lead to infection," he explains. "It's important we take a look, form a maintenance plan and ensure your feet, ankles and legs are in the best shape they can be. We want to eliminate the possibility of complications."
Over the years, Dr. Barak has seen firsthand how early diagnosis and treatment can make all the difference. Recently, he treated two former grade-school teachers who each had lesions on the bottoms of their feet that had not responded to previous treatment.
"It was a good thing they came to me," Dr. Barak says. "We took a biopsy, and what had seemed like only a small pimple was actually the beginning of skin cancer. I was able to not just save their feet, but save their lives."
Another patient, a diabetic who had previously been misdiagnosed, sought treatment after continuing to experience symptoms. Further evaluation revealed a bone infection that required surgery. Following treatment, she experienced a dramatic improvement in both her mobility and overall well-being.
“Our feet affect nearly every aspect of how we move and function,” says Dr. Barak. “When considering the best treatment for your specific foot and ankle conditions, understanding the whole body and how it works helps me diagnose and treat conditions more accurately.”
Known for taking a conservative, patient-focused approach, Dr. Barak is committed to making patients feel comfortable and cared for from the moment they walk through the door.
“I make sure I spend time with all my patients and really get to know them,” he says. “That allows me to offer the best, most conservative treatment from the start.”
Whether addressing a chronic condition, an injury or a routine concern, the goal remains the same: helping patients stay active, healthy and confidently on their feet.
