But the 23-year-old from Reno, Nevada, has since gained more than a little company.
Entering Sunday's final round, he's tied with Frenchman Jeremy Gandon for first place at 16 under par in the Korn Ferry Tour event, held at Lakewood National Golf Club.Ā
Gandon shot six under in his third round ā seven birdies against one bogey ā while Gilligan finished one under with five birdies, but two bogeys and a double bogey. Right on their tails are Augusto Núñez and Jay Card III, who are both 15 under par.
There's also a four-way tie for fifth place featuring Caleb VanArragon, Cole Hammer, Mitchell Meissner and Trace Crowe. All of them are two strokes behind the leaders.
The fourth round will begin at 8:45 a.m. April 5. When all is said and done, the eighth champion in tournament history will be crowned.
