Some of professional golf’s most recognizable players are committed to play the Senior PGA Championship in Lakewood Ranch, April 16-19 at The Concession Golf Club.

The 135-player field is scheduled to include 21 major champions, seven members of the World Golf Hall of Fame and 10 Ryder Cup captains.

The 21 major winners committed to play are: defending champion Ángel Cabrera, Michael Campbell, Stewart Cink, Darren Clarke, John Daly, Ernie Els, Padraig Harrington, Retief Goosen, Lee Janzen, Zach Johnson, Bernhard Langer, Tom Lehman, Justin Leonard, Shaun Micheel, José María Olazábal, Corey Pavin, Vijay Singh, Henrik Stenson, David Toms, Mike Weir and Y.E. Yang.

Eleven past Senior PGA champions are also in the field: Steve Stricker (2023), Steven Alker (2022), Alex Čejka (2021), Ken Tanigawa (2019), Langer (2017), Rocco Mediate (2016), Colin Montgomerie (2015, ‘14), Tom Lehman (2010), Michael Allen (2009) and Jay Haas (2008, ‘06).

The PGA of America last year agreed to a three-year deal with The Concession to play in Manatee County through the 2028 tournament. It’s the 86th edition of the Senior PGA Championship, which was last played in Florida in 2000 at PGA National in West Palm Beach. Tourism promotion agencies in Manatee and Sarasota counties have both pledged millions of dollars in support of the event's run.

“It’s great for the area,” said Paul Azinger, one of The Concession’s original members in a release from the PGA of America. “There is probably not many communities growing faster than the Sarasota-Manatee county areas. We’re going to have an economic boom, and this golf tournament is going to be a big reason why.’’

Meanwhile, this week 7 miles away, the Korn Ferry Tour is contesting the LECOM Suncoast Classic at Lakewood Ranch Country Club.
