Pedestrian killed crossing Bee Ridge Road

A 76-year-old Sarasota man was struck by a car and killed crossing Bee Ridge Road on Friday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patol.

The man, who the FHP did not identify other than by age, gender and hometown, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 7:01 a.m. incident.

According to FHP, the man was crossing from south to northeast of Riviera Drive, which is near Beneva Road, when a sedan driven by a 19-year-old Sarasota man struck him in the left lane. The sedan driver came to a stop in the center turn lane of Bee Ridge, the FHP reported, adding that the investigation of the incident was ongoing.

Lanes in both directions of Bee Ridge Road were closed for a time.

According to FHP data, eight pedestrians have been killed on Sarasota County roads in 2025.
