The setting was all-too familiar. The stakes were much the same.
And results came accordingly.
Riverview High girls swimming claimed its fifth consecutive state championship in FHSAA Class 4A on Nov. 14 at Florida Aquatics Swimming and Training in Ocala. Their collective score of 395 beat out Windermere's 305, and dating back to 2021, they've now won five in a row for the first time in program history.
On the boys' side, Sarasota High lifted a trophy of its own, securing a fourth in the past five years after finishing fourth in 2024. This latest triumph marks the first under coach Andrew Antonetz. The Sailors' tallied a 231 overall to edge Riverview's 208 and top the podium.
Senior Taylor Schwenk led the way for Riverview with three golds and one silver medal. She won the 100-yard butterfly (54.54) and 200-yard freestyle (1:47.97) individually — both personal bests. Additionally, she swam on the 200-yard freestyle relay team alongside freshman Alexandra Pearson, freshman Sydney Hardy and junior Angelina Lista, posting a 1:33.58.
For Sarasota's title-winning effort, senior Bogdan Zverev won the team's only two golds. He set two new personal bests by finishing first in the 200-yard individual medley (1:45.23) and 100-yard butterfly (46.99). The Sailors also had two silver-medalist relay teams in the 400-yard freestyle and 200-yard medley.
