Lakewood Ranch Medical Center received an A rating for fall 2025 from The Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit that regularly reports on quality, safety and cost-effectiveness of healthcare.

It’s the third rating cycle in a row the 120-bed hospital received Leapfrog’s top rating and the first since the arrival of CEO Robbert Anderson in April. Leapfrog conducts rating assessments twice a year, in the spring and the fall.

“Earning an ‘A’ safety grade from The Leapfrog Group reflects our entire team’s dedication to providing safe, high-quality care to every patient, every day,” Anderson said in prepared statement. “This achievement highlights the commitment of our physicians, nurses and staff to maintaining the highest standards of patient safety and continuously improving the care we deliver to our community.”

The hospital is in the midst of building a 60-bed expansion, the topping-off milestone for which took place last summer. Completion is expected in the first quarter of 2026.

It’s owned by a subsidiary of Universal Health Services. The Pennsylvania-based health care provider has more than 400 facilities nationwide, of which 28 are hospitals, including Manatee Memorial Hospital. Universal Health Services posted $15.8 billion in revenue in 2024.
