Two east Bradenton schools to have new principals

Carlos E. Haile Middle School and Dr. Mona Jain Middle School will have new principals for the 2023-2024 school year. 

Kate Barlaug, who currently serves as the principal at Haile Middle, has been named the principal at Mona Jain Middle. 

Barlaug has been principal at Haile Middle since 2017. She will replace David Underhill, who is serving as interim principal since past principal Angela Lindsey's retirement. 

Irene Nikitopoulos has been named the principal at Haile Middle School. She is replacing Barlaug.

Nikitopoulos has been serving as assistant principal at Lincoln Memorial Middle School since 2021. She has been assistant principal at Johnson K-8 School of International Studies as well as a curriculum specialist, dean and teacher. She has worked for the School District of Manatee County since 2006. 

Nikitopoulos was awarded the 2022 Outstanding Assistant Principal Achievement Award for Manatee County.
