Women's Golf Association on Longboat Key welcomes new members

The group is now at 175 members and welcomed several newcomers during a brunch event.

Although members of the Women's Golf Association had already finished their round for the day, the real glory came with the final putts in the Harbourside Ballroom.

At their post-golf brunch meeting on Jan. 25, members lined up for two final putts and aimed hot pink balls at a glass on the other end of the room with the aim of tapping the target. Those who hit the glass got one more try, and the tension was palpable as the finalists lined up. The ballroom quieted to a hush as the golfer took a deep breath and sent it rolling down the carpet. In the end, Brenda Baril won with a putt that landed 11.5 inches from the glass. Louise Berg and Bonnie Roby took second and third, respectively, and each winner took home a gift card.

The WGA gathered to celebrate their new members and get to know the newbies a bit better. Several played golf alongside their new friends and joined them at their tables afterwards to chat over bacon and hash browns. Members lingered after brunch for an update on club goings-on and golf course construction at the Longboat Key Club before dispersing to the rest of the day.
