Church of the Redeemer extends blessing to pets

Dogs, cats and horses took over Palm Avenue on Sunday at the Church of the Redeemer's annual Blessing of the Animals. Around 100 animals were blessed by Father Christian Wood and Father Charleston Wilson with a tree limb and holy water. 

The event is in conjunction with the church's Oct. 4 celebration of the Feast of St. Francis, the patron saint of animals and the environment. 

"This as a reminder, that all around us, points to God and His goodness. And any excuse to get a bunch of cats and dogs together on a Sunday afternoon is fun to watch," Wilson said.
