Sarasota Garden Club gambles down the runway

Jan Johannesen took a personal approach to spice up her wardrobe for the Sarasota Garden Club's fashion show.

"I grew this orchid on my lapel," said Johannesen. "People keep thinking it's fake, but it's real!"

Johannesen and several hundred others joined the Sarasota Garden Club for their Shivoo Monte Carlo Fashion Show at the Hyatt Regency on Jan. 25. There was a silent auction and raffle on which the gardening enthusiasts could try their luck.

Before the fashion show, all of the members were invited to take part in a card game. Whoever drew a queen and ace got to take home a string of pearls and a tiara.
