As the Sarasota Bay Watch motto goes, a healthy bay is everybody’s business.

That’s why the watch’s 8th annual  “Scallopalooza, It’s Clamtastic!” fundraiser was so important.

“It really does connect to the community and gives people a chance to get involved,” President Larry Stults said.

The event, which for the second year in a row supported the watch’s southern hardshell clam restoration efforts as well as its scallop restoration efforts, took place on Sept. 23 at Sarasota Yacht Club.

Stults said that events like Scallopalooza are important because it gives people who can’t participate in the annual scallop search or be on the water a chance to help.

The sold out event included a cocktail hour, silent auction with items ranging from Mar Vista Dockside Restaurant and Pub gift certificates to four-day single passes to Busch Gardens, dinner and presentations.
