Sleepy Lagoon hosts annual neighborhood party

Every year the neighborhood of Sleepy Lagoon hosts a party for its members, and this year, they came out in full force.

Nearly 80 guests were expected at the bayside bash, and though the actual attendance was estimated to be a little less than that, Marbury Lane was packed with guests as many chose to walk to the event rather than drive.

Neighbors gathered to mingle, drink and enjoy a large potluck-style buffet that included everything from penne pasta with vodka sauce to authentic Greek spanakopita. Event-goers also enjoyed the views of the Sister Keys and the accompanying canal from hosts J.J. and Susan Coneys’ backyard.

The party was planned by the local neighborhood association, which provides a “voice for the community,” said president June McGroary.
