On a trip to Mote Marine Laboratory July 2, Willis Elementary School’s Mira Norton learned to talk to baby sea turtles, or at least the one that told her it wanted to become her pet.
The sand dollar-sized baby turtle opened and closed its mouth at Mira, as she looked at it through the glass during a field trip with the Lakewood Ranch YMCA's summer camp program.
“She wanted to be my pet. She was looking at me,” 7-year-old Mira said with a grin. “She was talking to me.”
Mira and about 100 campers spent July 31 through Aug. 4 doing arts and crafts, playing games, swimming and going on field trips.
