As sure as the seasons change, Longboat Key snowbirds head back north for the summer.

On April 19, Seaplace hosted a farewell party for its resident snowbirds to wish them smooth sailing. As the sun set over the Gulf of Mexico, residents mingled on the clubhouse’s back patio.

The “Smooth Sailing at Sunset” party included a dinner catered by Alpine Steakhouse and live music by local artist BC Hathaway, whose rendition of “Margaritaville” brought a dozen residents to their feet and prompted cheers and applause from everyone else.
