Garden Club welcomes back members

The Longboat Key Garden Club isn’t your average garden club.

At least, that’s what President Susan Phillips told the 64 members and guests at the club’s welcome back luncheon on Nov. 29.

“This club is not your mama’s garden club,” Phillips said jokingly.

She said the club started as a stereotypical one where members get some dirt under their fingernails, but now the club is more about philanthropy, friendship and being social. The luncheon served as a time to reunite but also as a chance to discuss upcoming events, such as the club’s A Taste of the Keys Fashion Show and Annual LBK Garden Club House Tour.

Susan Goldfarb, executive director of the Longboat Key Education Center, also spoke to the group about living a healthy lifestyle.
